Facebook is our buddy when it comes to saying “Happy Birthday!” Let’s think about it. Aren’t you worried you’d innocently forget your spouse’s birthday? Your parents’ birthday? Your own birthday? (!!)
I am. All the time.
Lucky for me, Facebook is a good way of keeping track of birthdays. This is thank to the fact that most people sign up using their real birth date, and then opt to share it on Facebook. As a result, you can easily rely on Facebook notifications to not let someone’s birthday slip by.
Ways to say Happy Birthday Using Facebook
Up until now, you have two main ways of sending birthday wishes via Facebook. Your choices are either expressing your wishes through Messenger or posting directly on their walls. Maybe you’d even go as far as throwing in a couple of emojis or a GIF to spice things up.
Now, you have a third option.
Send Birthday Wishes with Facebook Stories
According to Facebook Newsroom, Facebook is offering a new way to wish someone a Happy Birthday. This method focuses entirely on its Stories feature.
In case you haven’t noticed, Facebook Stories are the short-lived posts which lay on top of your News Feed. They usually comprise of an in-the-moment photo or video, making them a more visual way of using Facebook. In fact, 500 million people are using Facebook Stories every day.
To send your friends a birthday greeting, all you need to do is to
1 Tap on the birthday notification.
2 Shoot or upload a photo or short video or use one of Facebook digital birthday cards.
3 Add a music sticker to give your story a “Happy Birthday” soundtrack.
4 Your wish gets added to your friend’s birthday story, creating a personalized slideshow for them.
After these four steps, you’ve instantly got your friends a digital birthday wish.
Go Big
You could technically already use Facebook Stories to wish someone a Happy Birthday. However, Facebook has now formalized the procedure, adding birthday notifications, ways to customize your Birthday Stories, and a selection of birthday cards.
So, after the new Facebook redesign, the biggest social media platform is once again adding another new feature to its list.
