You Can Now Use Threaded Replies on Facebook Messenger

Facebook is on a roll this year as it is launching yet another new feature: Threaded Replies on the Messenger App. The launch arrives after the roll-out of the Remove for Everyone button and a hidden dark mode.

What’s Special about This Threaded Replies Feature?

The new feature, first reported by Venture Beat, applies globally for the 1.3 billion active Facebook Messenger users. In a nutshell, this means you can address a specific comment in a chat without derailing the whole conversation.

Like WhatsApp, the quoted reply will appear at the foot of the conversation, rather than in a thread of its own. That will be especially handy in a large group conversation where comments often get lost in the shuffle and replies to them appear out of sync. You could also find this useful in a one-on-one chat in case you want to address something discussed earlier but the conversation has moved on.

How to Use Threaded Replies on Messenger

Creating a threaded reply in Facebook Messenger is extremely simple. Here’s what to do:

1 Press and hold down on the specific message to which you want to reply.

2 Next to the existing option to add an emoji, you’ll now see a “Reply” button that looks like this. How to use threaded replies on Facebook Messenger

3 Click the “Reply” button, and write your response as you normally would.

4 Hit send. Your message will be added to the conversation, but with the original message attached as a quote.

Facebook’s New Commitment

Facebook hasn’t officially announced this feature to the world, but it should be rolling out to 1.3 billion users on Messenger right now. If you still can’t use a threaded reply in Messenger, be sure to update the app to its latest version.

This newest feature marks a year in which Facebook recommitted to “streamlining” and “simplifying” the Messenger experience.
